Crazy Times Don’t Last, But Crazy People Do

Greetings and the usual introduction about how the current news cycle is as nutty as squirrel poop. However, there is light at the end of this tunnel. I see signs of meager improvement. The year 2021 is so far being nicer to us than 2020. Let’s get to brass tacks and bras tax:

If you follow my Twitter feed, I also broadcast my latest work there occasionally. Lately at the geeky fandom beat, I got sick and tired of The Matrix getting a free pass with all the crazy conspiracy theories it’s spawned. If we’re going after the toxic media that poisons our minds, let us include the popular ones. We openly laugh at the spastic static of Marjorie Taylor Greene, but wrap the same bullshit in a leather trenchcoat with cool guns and we literally make a religion out of it.

And nothing appears to be as popular as The Matrix. Between Red Piller Incels and people murdering their parents because they thought they were living in a computer simulation, The Matrix is responsible for indoctrinating people to a level similar to The Turner Diaries. Yet social media does not allow you to criticize The Matrix! The Wachowski siblings are sacred, untouchable cows. You get stoned to death by angry mobs for daring to suggest that they don’t walk on water.

UPDATE: As usual, after I finish my thesis, I find a video with a reasoned scientific argument agreeing with me!

Using the same logic, we could say “there are more ants than people on Earth, therefore the odds are better that we are ants.”

Iowa Republicans Kick History Out of School

As if the state of Iowa education weren’t deep enough in the sewer already, Iowa lawmakers are now protesting the teaching of simple history in school. The 1619 Project is an educational initiative sponsored by no less than The New York Times, educating children about the story of African- Americans from the first day they arrived on slave ships to American shores.

Since Iowa public schools are already a desert of historical ignorance, this initiative is a great benefit to the school system. They don’t have to do the heavy lifting; the newspaper of record just hands them the lesson plans for free. And which month is Black History Month? Oh yes, this one.

When our kids were in school, not a week went by that I wasn’t fighting the system to get them an education we already paid tax dollars for. All the school was concerned about was football. It figures for a state where COVID Kim took away pandemic safety requirements the day before the StupidBowl. Why? Oh yeah, so Republicans can pack the bars and spread COVID some more. She literally told Iowans, if you have a problem with it, just stay in your homes and die.

The central piece of this post is the January 6th Republican Revolt, when there was a literal attempt to overthrow our democracy. And they LOST. They LOST because they’re LOSERS, and I wrote a whole post over there at 123ish.com to point out that LOSERS LOSE, and know they’re going to keep LOSING.

I say it all over there at 123ish. Look, I don’t ask for much in this world, I’m not a hog for recognition, I never won an award in my life and don’t want one. But when it comes to gutsy bloggers pulling the facts out of the dark, pissing off both the left and the right, I think I’m probably one of the few left who do that.

 

I piss off the Right when pointing out how the country has started healing now already, just from having Joe Biden and Her Majesty Kamala Harris in the driver’s seat. I piss off the Left pointing out that we didn’t get here by sending death threats to Ajit Pai’s family, Occupying Wall Street, or believing we’re all living in a computer simulation. So I get hit by both sides without an ally.

I like that! It’s up to me to take the heat that few could endure.

GameStop and Bernie Sanders Taste Great Together

Just because I can have a little fun, I got a kick out of both the Bernie Sanders’ inauguration meme, and the GameStop short squeeze fiasco. I proposed that those two events, so close to each other chronologically, should be linked forever in web mythology.

 

And lest we forsake the light of truth in this moment of levity, that is GENERATION Z doing the GameStop stock buyout. This is how Gen Z protests! They don’t take to New York and make a big crybaby whine out of themselves. They quietly see an opportunity, make a move, and punish the system with its own weapons. Get used to it! Generation Z is the Batman you’ve been waiting for.

Had Enough Proletariat vs Bourgeoisie?

No you have not. Snowpiercer, a science fiction movie about all of humanity on a bleak train with Marx in the back and Rand up front, has become the new TV series hypeness. So in an attempt to take it seriously, I tried to review Snowpiercer, only to discover that we had fallen for the old class-struggle-as-sci-fi trick again.

No, really, check that piece out! I document a whole chain of sci-fi movies that are the exact same story as Snowpiercer, just “in space” or “on a boat” or whatever. I don’t mean to take anything away from the movie or director Bong Joon-Ho. The movie is still a breathtaking vision. It’s just that I find myself watching the same movie every day with a different name, and come to wonder how it got that way.

You Can’t Tell Me That People Don’t Care Out There

I hear them give speeches like this, and I know that there’s somebody out there who has not degenerated into a knuckle-dragging, dirt-licking, primitive savage.

A technology company has to file a lawsuit against media personalities and they start it out with “The Earth is round. Two plus two equals four.” When that happens, you know the cuckoo train has left the station.

I know that Nancy Pelosi is my spirit animal, not because of political alignment, but because her line for putting idiots in their idiot place is to say “your question is a waste of time.”

So I know that I’m not alone. And female news anchors who are literally hired to be on screen to be decorative, but are discouraged from opening their mouths while the men are talking, you know that you are not alone too. We are all quietly sitting to the side watching the idiots bash each other. We don’t care who wins, as long as there’s less idiots afterwards.

Crazy times don’t last, but crazy people do. Just keep the lid on, have a pint, and this will all blow over.
