It may be corporate-speak, and not particularly bristling with compelling content, and coming from a company many of us aren't too happy with lately. But I must admit it is refreshing to see a business person touting the merits of Linux and the Open Source experience.

In terms of promoting Linux, this is what I'd like to see more of. Not apologizing for not being Windows. Not defending it by preaching its high-minded philosophy. Not wasting time attacking other software. Not repeating the same "Not ready for the desktop this year, but maybe next year" mantra. Not fixing tunnel vision on Ubuntu, KDE, and Gnome and ignoring everything else.

Just say it: "The Linux desktop is a complete blast." Well, you believe it don't you? Then say it louder! I'm making a new resolution: to say this to somebody else the next chance I get. Wouldn't it be great if every Linux enthusiast tried this method, too, for a change? Let's quit explaining Linux, defending Linux, and just drag somebody over to your Linux screen and show them. "Here, look, I can do this! Isn't that cool?"

It's time this most advanced system got the recognition it deserves and has been so sorely denied.
