Console Junkie

You know I love those KDE widgets; I always ask for more.
And they call me "Mr. GUI" on down at the computer store.
I only use windowed programs; xterm doesn't get my clicks.
And my friends are always begging me to teach them more desktop beauty tricks.
Yes they are...

But at night I take out my distros that I keep under lock and key.
And I use the basement computer, so nobody else can see.
Slide the CD tray out slowly, as I glance up East and West.
Then I pop in my grml live CD, 'cuz it's the one that I like best!

In the daytime I'm Mr. GUI, just as mousy as I can be.
But at night I'm a console junkie, may Eris have pity on me.

Well on weekends you can always find me on the board at Digg.com.
Just dishing out my trendy comments, with my usual witty aplomb.
And playing Quake deathmatch online, with taunts all cocky and sly.
And joining my friends in unanimous praise of the glorious GUI!
Oh, yeah...

But when that clock strikes midnight, my desktop will get tromped,
when I Alt-F2 to the console, and I log in at my prompt.
Then I cat, grep, sed, awk, ed, less, lynx, and find I even use vi!
And I even chat in epic-IRC, for that genuine console high.

In the daytime I'm Mr. GUI, just as mousy as I can be.
But at night I'm a console junkie, may Eris have pity on me.

Those kids hanging out at Flickr, they think I'm pretty 'l33t.
I may not be too knowledgeable, but my screenshots can't be beat!
I only run Knoppix or Ubuntu, I don't back down a bit;
I even have my dockapp web-cam feed running in my Fluxbox slit.
Yes I do...

But lately I have been quoting from my fortune cookie file.
And conversing with Emacs' doctor, with a glowing secret smile.
I know someday they'll find me at my desk as dead as can be,
with a source code tarball scrolling up, compiling with gcc.

In the daytime I'm Mr. GUI, just as mousy as I can be.
But at night I'm a console junkie, may Eris have pity on me.
