1975 - See this here, kid? This is a punched card. You want to work with computers, get to read these real good, because you'll be looking at them your whole life!

1977 - If you want to learn programming, you might as well start with COBOL. You won't get far in life without learning COBOL.

1980 - Radio Shack's Tandy will never be surpassed. After the TRS-80, what else is there?

1982 - Atari will never die. It rules the gaming world. And the new E.T. game will put them on top forever.

1985 - Commodore will always be around. They've dominated the home market for years now, and I hear they're coming out with the Amiga which will be even better!

1987 - The video game arcade will never go away. Home computers will never match the video and audio capability of a cabinet arcade game.

1990 - Better get used to DOS, it looks like it's here to stay!

1992 - You'll never be able to keep a job in this field unless you learn Hypercard. It's just going to keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger...

1994 - Web development is so easy, anybody can do it. Just learn HTML. All it is is about 15 tags, and bang, just like that, you have a job for life!

2000 - Microsoft just came out with the Millenium Edition of Windows. This is the perfect time to buy a new computer!

2007 - Did I hear you say that Microsoft won't rule the desktop forever? AAHHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! What a moron!

You didn't really hear that.......

But if you did, it's funny because a lot of us have been talking about the ET game and the video game crash of the 1980s.

Did so!

But this was before ET the game was released, right after the news of the deal broke. Atari had hit its peak in 1980 with profits of $415 million and was riding the wave. ET, the movie, was so fantastically successful that Atari horked up somewhere around $20 million to buy the rights from Spielberg - their two chief competitors, Coleco and Intellivision, weren't in any shape to afford that kind of money. That's how optimistic Atari was. The crash didn't happen until 1983. We're talking North America, here.

And then they had to create a special landfill just for all the unpurchased (or returned) ET games....::shakes head::
